Policyselect

About Policyselect

We don't sell policies. We help you read them.

Here's exactly how we work, where our information comes from, and what we do and don't claim to be.

Editorial independence

Policyselect is not an insurer, agent or broker. We don't sell coverage, don't receive commission from insurers, and don't accept payment to feature or rank any company. Nothing on this site is a sponsored placement.

Our estimator tools and guides are built to explain how coverage and pricing generally work, so that whichever insurer or agent you eventually talk to, you're asking sharper questions.

Our rating & methodology framework

Where this site presents a "risk tier" or an "estimate," it's built from a simplified, disclosed formula — not a proprietary black box. Three principles guide how we build every tool:

Show the formula, not just the result

Every calculator on the Tools page lists the inputs it used and the assumptions behind the math, directly next to the result.

State the limitations plainly

We flag what a tool does not account for — inflation, network differences, coinsurance — instead of letting a clean number imply more precision than it has.

Never invent data

We don't fabricate insurer names, ratings, certifications, statistics or approval statuses. If we don't have a sourced figure, we describe the general mechanism instead.

Information sourcing

Guides are written from publicly available regulatory material and general industry practice. We update a guide when the underlying mechanic it describes changes.

Privacy by design

Every estimator tool runs entirely in your browser. Numbers you enter are never transmitted, stored, or shared — closing the tab clears them.

Ethics & transparency

We label every estimate as educational, never as a quote or approval. If a tool's limitations mean it isn't right for your situation, we say so.
